Downeast Mushrooms is a passion project started by two best friends to share the highest quality, Maine grown organic + sustainable mushrooms.

Larkin, a mushroom enthusiast, has been foraging wild mushrooms since childhood in Deer Isle, Maine. Over the past few years, he has shared his knowledge with Caitlin, who has always appreciated the medicinal benefits and delicious flavor of mushrooms . They spent the pandemic discovering new mushroom species, creating recipes to incorporate them into every shared meal, foraging the local islands for seasonal bursts, and making chaga tea from their medicinal mushroom scores.

When Caitlin was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, their love of eating mushrooms turned secondary to the health benefits of the mushrooms they both loved so much. Larkin started growing edible and medicinal mushrooms at home; to make his own tinctures and to have consistent access to the freshest cooking mushrooms possible.

In the winter of 2024, we bought a used shipping container, built a grow room & started supplying Deer Isle, Stonington, and the Blue Hill peninsula with the freshest mushrooms around.

Our mission is to create more accessibility to the highest quality, Maine grown, organic, and sustainable mushrooms for you to enjoy!
